ShelterBox Ukraine Campaign
May 25, 2022
Since the last ShelterBox presentation in 2019 there have been many changes and Landon will speak to this as well as their current campaign in Ukraine to provide urgent assistance to those in critical need as a result of the devastation caused by the Russian invasion. The following is information about Landon: My name is Landon Smith and I have been with ShelterBox since the end of last year. I am originally from Los Angeles, but I grew up all across the western United States. Since before I was born, my parents have worked for the Salvation Army which has shown me the importance of helping others and has given me a strong desire to give back wherever I can. My mother is originally from Washington state and my father is from Waikato, which has given me the very handy status of dual-citizen. I moved to New Zealand in 2017 to attend Waikato University and now live in Wellington working for PwC as a finance and economics consultant.

Malaghan Institute VAANZ Programme - Clinical Trials of COVID 'booster vaccine to end all boosters'
Jul 27, 2022
Dr Theresa Pankhurst (Ngai Tahu, Ngati Kahungunu and Ngati Porou) is a postdoctoral researcher in the VAANZ programme and Te Urungi fellow. She is currently working at the Malaghan Insitute on a homergrown Covid-19 "booster to end all boosters". The pre-clinical tests are investigating a vaccine that can effectively neutralise multiple variants of the Covid 19 virus as well as provide durable long-term protection for 5 to 10 years. This will strengthen New Zealand's preparedness to navigate this pandemic as well as being prepared for any further pandemics including research, manufacture, thoroughly safety test and distribute vaccines as needed, without having to rely on the overseas market. As the inugural receipient of the three year Te Urungi Fellowship Dr Pankhurst will blend her two passions; immunology and Te Ao Maori. This will assist the Institute in its work towards equitable health outcomes for Maori. During the final two years she will be seconded to the Babraham Insitutue at the University of Cambridge working with a lead researcher in germinal centre B-cell biology and vaccination. |

Creating Tomorrow - The Regionalisation Pilot Programme
Aug 17, 2022
Rotary International is considering a project to address membership, public image, communication, leadership, and fundraising challenges to help define a more sustainable future for Rotary.
Our region, or Zone 8, which includes Australia, New Zealand, and the Pacific Islands, has been selected as one of two potential regions from across the globe to pilot a regional approach to governance. It is important that you, our fellow Rotarians, are consulted throughout this process. In fact, the project cannot proceed without the support of members and clubs.
This presentation aims to provide Rotarians with information that may answer any questions they have, and to assist in preparing them for a vote on whether or not we should adopt a pilot for change.
